Overview

Plastic pollution is a major problem for the environment. This issue has grown exponentially in recent years, with “nearly half of all plastic ever manufactured [being] made since 2000” (Parker, 2018).

The combination of an increase in usage of single-use items, a lack of recycling options, and the non-biodegradable nature of most plastics are what ultimately have led to the plastic pollution problem that the world is facing today.

There is a lot that is known about plastic pollution and there have been many recent developments and efforts to combat it, but in the end, more must be done. Nearly everyone plays a role in this issue and the solution of one country or nation is simply not enough to save the world from its disastrous consequences.

The issue of plastic pollution requires global collaboration and societal restructurings in order for a sustainable and eco-friendly solution to be reached.
